Electric Gates Fife

AES (Scotland) Ltd specialise in the design, supply and installation of bespoke electric gates throughout Fife, providing secure, practical and beautifully finished entrance solutions for private homes, country properties, rural estates, commercial premises and developments.

Bespoke Electric Gate Installation Specialists in Fife

Established in 2003 and backed by more than 35 years of industry experience, AES (Scotland) Ltd specialise in the supply, installation, maintenance and repair of electric gates throughout Fife and across Scotland.

Every electric gate installation is designed around the individual property, combining quality gate construction, proven automation systems, appropriate safety equipment and professional installation to provide reliable access and long-term performance.

We regularly undertake electric gate projects throughout Fife, including St Andrews, Elie, Earlsferry, Aberdour, Newport-on-Tay, Crail, Cupar and Falkland, as well as surrounding areas.

We also work across locations including Kingsbarns, Anstruther, Guardbridge, Lundin Links, Lower Largo, North Queensferry, Dunfermline and Dalgety Bay, subject to individual project requirements.

Fife’s properties vary considerably, from coastal homes and traditional houses to substantial country properties, private estates, rural residences and modern developments. Many entrances also involve larger driveways, gravel surfaces, gradients or exposed locations, making careful system selection particularly important.

Whether you require traditional timber electric gates, a contemporary aluminium entrance, a hardwood estate gate or a robust sliding system, we design the installation around your property, its surroundings and the way you use the entrance.

Had 2 sets of electric gates and some railings and garden gates supplied and fitted by Gordon and his team. Must say the service and workmanship was excellent and I would fully recommend AES to anyone. In fact I’ve had them back to price for more work. It makes a big difference to find a company who do a great job and you can trust to get the job done.

Swing Electric Gates: Practical & Elegant Solutions for Fife Properties

Swing electric gates are particularly popular for larger driveways, country homes and properties where there is sufficient space for the gates to open safely.

A swing system can consist of a single gate or pair of gates operated by electric operators, with access controlled using remote controls, keypads, intercoms or other access control equipment.

They are particularly well suited to gravel and rural driveways, where installing a ground track for a sliding system may be undesirable or impractical.

For properties around St Andrews, Elie, Earlsferry, Crail and Cupar, a well-designed swing gate can also complement traditional architecture and landscaped entrances.

Key advantages include:

  • No ground track: Suitable for many gravel and rural driveways.
  • Traditional appearance: Particularly effective for country homes and period properties.
  • Reduced groundwork: Swing systems can require less extensive groundwork than some sliding alternatives.
  • Wide range of materials: Timber, hardwood, aluminium, steel, wrought iron and composite options are available.
  • Convenient automated access: Remote operation makes entering and leaving the property easier.
  • Flexible designs: Gates can be designed around the character of the property rather than using a standard configuration.

Where sufficient space is available, swing gates can provide an attractive combination of security, convenience and traditional kerb appeal.

Cantilever Sliding Gates: Electric Gates for Uneven & Challenging Ground

Cantilever sliding gates can provide an excellent solution for Fife properties where a conventional tracked system is unsuitable.

The gate is suspended above the driveway and operates without a ground-mounted track running across the entrance.

This can be particularly useful where uneven ground, slopes, stones, leaves, snow, ice or other debris could affect the operation of a tracked system.

For rural and larger properties throughout Fife, cantilever gates can provide reliable automated access while allowing considerable flexibility in gate design.

Benefits of Cantilever Electric Gates Include:

  • No ground track: Helps reduce problems caused by debris and weather.
  • Suitable for uneven ground: Useful where the entrance isn’t suitable for a conventional track.
  • Strong and secure: Suitable for substantial residential and commercial entrances.
  • Low exposed mechanism: Fewer operating components are positioned directly within the driveway surface.
  • Wide choice of gate designs: Timber, aluminium, steel, wrought iron and composite gates can be incorporated.

Cantilever systems do require sufficient space beside the entrance for the gate to travel into its open position, so the available layout needs to be assessed carefully before installation.

Tracked Sliding Gates: Secure & Space-Efficient Electric Gates

Tracked sliding gates provide a practical solution where a gate needs to slide horizontally rather than open into the driveway.

This can be particularly useful where driveway depth is limited or where swing gates would interfere with parking, landscaping or other parts of the property.

Tracked sliding gates can be suitable for residential, commercial and rural properties across Fife, provided the ground conditions are appropriate for a properly installed track.

Key advantages include:

      • Efficient use of space: The gate slides alongside the boundary rather than swinging into the driveway.
      • Strong physical barrier: Substantial sliding gates can provide excellent perimeter security.
      • Suitable for larger gates: The system can accommodate a wide variety of gate materials and designs.
      • Contemporary and traditional options: The gate itself can be designed to suit the property.
      • Automated convenience: Remote controls and access control systems make operation simple.

Where the entrance is exposed to significant debris, has a substantial gradient or has particularly difficult ground conditions, we may recommend considering a cantilever system instead.

Electric Gates for Country Homes, Coastal Properties & Larger Driveways

Fife contains a particularly varied mix of properties, and the right electric gate needs to reflect its surroundings.

A traditional timber or hardwood gate may be appropriate for a country property near St Andrews or Cupar, while a 5-bar electric field gate can provide a more natural solution for a rural entrance or estate property.

Around Elie, Earlsferry, Crail and the East Neuk, coastal exposure and the character of the surrounding property can also influence the choice of materials and finishes.

For larger properties around Aberdour, Newport-on-Tay and other rural parts of Fife, driveway length, gradients, gravel surfaces and available space may influence whether swing, tracked sliding or cantilever gates are most appropriate.

The aim is not simply to automate an entrance. It is to create a gate system that looks right, operates reliably and remains practical for the property over the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions About Electric Gates in Fife

      1. What type of electric gate is best for a property in Fife?

It depends on the driveway layout, available space, ground conditions, gate size and intended use.

Swing gates can work particularly well for larger driveways and country properties, while tracked or cantilever sliding gates may be more suitable where space or ground conditions make swing gates impractical.

      2. Are electric gates suitable for gravel driveways?

Yes. Swing gates are often particularly suitable because they do not require a ground track running across the driveway.

Where a sliding system is preferred, the ground conditions and proposed track installation need to be assessed carefully.

      .

      3. Are electric gates suitable for rural and country properties?

Yes. Electric gates can be designed specifically for rural homes, estates and larger private properties. Traditional timber, hardwood and 5 bar field gate designs can provide automated access while retaining the character of the property.

      4. Can electric gates be used on sloping ground?

Potentially. The gradient and direction of movement need to be considered carefully. Depending on the site, a swing or cantilever sliding system may provide a better solution than a conventional tracked gate.

      5. How much do electric gates cost in Fife?

There is no single price because the cost depends on the gate size, material, design, automation equipment, groundworks, access control and site conditions.

A site assessment allows us to provide a quotation based on the actual requirements of the installation.

      6. Do you provide electric gate servicing and repairs throughout Fife?

Yes. AES (Scotland) Ltd provides electric gate maintenance, servicing and repairs throughout Fife and surrounding areas.

      7. What materials can electric gates be made from?

Electric gates can be manufactured from timber, hardwood, aluminium, steel, wrought iron and composite materials. The right choice depends on the appearance of the property, required durability, maintenance preferences, security requirements and budget.

We recently had AES Scotland design and install electric gates for our driveway, and we are honestly delighted. The communication from the beginning, the update on how things were progressing and the end result have been fantastic (and they worked through the horrendous weather to complete)! I'd highly recommend AES, a lovely team and great quality workmanship!

We got new gates fitted by AES. I have to say the whole process was exceptionally easy. Lisa in the office was extremely fast in coming back to me. Gordon came out to measure and gave me a view I had not considered. Gordon and his colleague came out on the day they said and fitted the gates. Very impressive service. I would highly recommend this company.

AES were recommended to us by friends who had new gates installed and were very happy with the outcome they achieved. Our situation was very different - old, deactivated, concealed motor, iron gate on a shared driveway that apparently had never worked well - we weren't too hopeful that a fix was possible and were bracing ourselves for a completely new install. However, Gordon and his team managed to clear out the motors and get them working again. The intercom and controls were dragged from an old, unreliable dialler system in to the 21st century and we can now see from and control our gates from anywhere in the world. A new free exit radar and safety features we hadn't even thought about were installed for an altogether more complete system. Gordon even kindly took the time to explain the system to the neighbours that share our driveway. The quality of workmanship speaks for itself but Gordon and his team were also by far one of the easiest to communicate with and most professional contractors we have dealt with throughout a complex renovation. We would recommend AES to anyone.
