We recently had AES Scotland design and install electric gates for our driveway, and we are honestly delighted. The communication from the beginning, the update on how things were progressing and the end result have been fantastic (and they worked through the horrendous weather to complete)! I'd highly recommend AES, a lovely team and great quality workmanship!

Can't recommend AES enough, Gordon and his team were amazing from start to finish. Advising on all aspects of the gates and making sure they were the right fit for my property. The final product looks amazing and works flawlessly. I will be back in the future for any other work.

We got new gates fitted by AES. I have to say the whole process was exceptionally easy. Lisa in the office was extremely fast in coming back to me. Gordon came out to measure and gave me a view I had not considered. Gordon and his colleague came out on the day they said and fitted the gates. Very impressive service. I would highly recommend this company.

AES were recommended to us by friends who had new gates installed and were very happy with the outcome they achieved. Our situation was very different - old, deactivated, concealed motor, iron gate on a shared driveway that apparently had never worked well - we weren't too hopeful that a fix was possible and were bracing ourselves for a completely new install. However, Gordon and his team managed to clear out the motors and get them working again. The intercom and controls were dragged from an old, unreliable dialler system in to the 21st century and we can now see from and control our gates from anywhere in the world. A new free exit radar and safety features we hadn't even thought about were installed for an altogether more complete system. Gordon even kindly took the time to explain the system to the neighbours that share our driveway. The quality of workmanship speaks for itself but Gordon and his team were also by far one of the easiest to communicate with and most professional contractors we have dealt with throughout a complex renovation. We would recommend AES to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes AES (Scotland) Ltd different from other automatic gate and barrier companies?

As a family-run business, we take a hands-on approach to every project, ensuring consistency from initial enquiry through to completion. We do not treat projects as volume work. Every system is carefully considered, with a focus on long-term reliability, practical design, and clear communication throughout.

True expertise comes from understanding the systems you install, not simply fitting them. That means taking the time to understand each customer’s requirements and ensuring the solution is right for their property and how they intend to use it.

As a family-run business, our name and reputation are personal to us. We take pride in the work we do and in the relationships we build with our customers. From the first conversation to long after installation, we aim to provide the same level of care, honesty and personal service that we would expect ourselves. For us, every installation matters, and every customer is someone we want to feel confident recommending us to others.

How can I be sure your reviews are genuine?

It’s a fair question. In an age where online reviews can be bought, manipulated, or artificially inflated, it’s important to know who you can trust.

We always encourage prospective customers to do their own research when comparing local service providers. Look beyond the overall rating and consider the consistency, longevity, and authenticity of the feedback being left.

At AES (Scotland) Ltd, every review, testimonial, and star rating has been earned through genuine hard work carried out for real paying clients. Our reputation has been built steadily over many years, not through marketing shortcuts or manufactured feedback.

We do not buy reviews, incentivise customers to leave positive feedback, or use third parties to artificially boost our ratings. The reviews you see across our platforms reflect real genuine experiences from homeowners, businesses, and organisations who have chosen to work with us.

We’re extremely proud that our reputation has been built the traditional way: by delivering a reliable service, maintaining very high standards, and earning the trust of our customers one job at a time. We believe that genuine feedback is one of the strongest indicators of a company’s integrity, and we’re grateful to every customer who has taken the time to share their experience.

Who is actually installing your gate?

It’s a question we believe every customer should ask before choosing an electric gate company.

When you invest in an electric gate, you’re not simply buying a gate and a motor. You’re paying for someone to correctly assess the site, install the system, configure it, integrate the safety equipment and make sure everything works together as it should.

So who is actually responsible for your installation?

At AES (Scotland) Ltd, your installation isn’t a training exercise.

It’s not handed to a general handyman. It’s not left to someone who has only been in the industry for a short while. And it’s not handed to someone who is still learning how electric gate installations are carried out, relying on someone else to guide them through the job or turning to online forums when they encounter something unfamiliar.

Your installation is overseen by someone with extensive experience built over many years in the electric gate and automation industry.

That experience matters long before the gate starts moving. It’s knowing what to look for when assessing the site. Understanding how the gate, automation, electrics and safety systems need to work together. Recognising potential problems before they become expensive ones.

It’s knowing that every installation is different – and having the experience to adapt when the situation in front of you doesn’t quite match the textbook.

Of course, manufacturer manuals and technical information have their place. Even highly experienced professionals use them when programming, configuring or checking specific equipment. But there’s a fundamental difference between following instructions and knowing how to install the system in the first place.

Because anyone can follow instructions.

Experience is knowing what to do when the instructions don’t cover the situation in front of you.

And that’s particularly important with electric gates. The installation needs to be assessed, configured and commissioned correctly, with the gate, automation and safety systems working together as they should. It needs to operate reliably and safely not just on the day it’s commissioned, but long after we’ve left.

Your installation isn’t where someone gains their experience.

What happens when something doesn't go according to plan?

That’s where the difference between experience and simply following a process really shows.

Every installation is different.

Ground conditions can vary. Existing gates may not be perfectly aligned. Electrical supplies can present challenges. Access can be restricted. Structures can move, settle or behave differently from how they appeared during the initial assessment.

A straightforward installation is easy to make look straightforward. The real test is what happens when something unexpected arises.

We don’t simply arrive with a checklist and work through it regardless of what we find. We assess the situation, understand what we’re working with and use our experience to make informed decisions based on the installation in front of us.

More importantly, experience isn’t just about knowing how to solve a problem once it appears. It’s knowing what to look for before it becomes a problem in the first place.

That might mean recognising a potential issue with the gate, questioning something that doesn’t look quite right, adapting the installation to suit the site or recognising when a seemingly simple solution could create problems further down the line.

Because experience isn’t about expecting everything to go to plan. It’s knowing what to do when it doesn’t – and, where possible, seeing it coming before it does.

Who will I be dealing with throughout my project?

From your initial enquiry through to installation and aftercare, you will be dealing with an experienced member of our team who understands your project from start to finish. We believe this continuity is important, as it ensures clear communication, accountability, and a smoother overall process.

Will I receive honest advice on what system is right for me?

Yes, we take a straightforward and honest approach when advising on any project. Our aim is to recommend solutions that are genuinely suited to your property and how the system will be used, rather than over-specifying or adding unnecessary features. This ensures you receive a system that is both effective and practical long-term.

How do you approach each automatic gate or security project?

Every project begins with understanding your property, access requirements, and long-term expectations. We take a practical approach, offering straightforward advice and recommending solutions that are suited to the site rather than overcomplicating the design. This ensures the finished system is both reliable and easy to use on a day-to-day basis.

Do you use in-house engineers or subcontractors?

All of our work is carried out by experienced engineers who are directly involved in our projects, ensuring a consistent standard of workmanship across every installation. We believe this approach is key to maintaining quality, accountability, and attention to detail, rather than relying on external subcontractors where standards can vary.

Do you work with both residential and commercial clients?

Yes, we work across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, providing tailored entrance and access solutions for a wide range of properties. Whether it is securing a private driveway or managing access to a commercial site, we apply the same level of care, attention to detail, and professional standards to every project.

How do you ensure the long-term reliability of your systems?

We focus on proven equipment, high-quality materials, and correct installation methods from the outset. By designing systems that are suited to the specific site conditions and usage requirements, we reduce the likelihood of issues arising over time. This experience-led approach ensures our installations continue to operate reliably for many years.

What level of support do you provide after installation?

Our service does not end once the installation is complete. We provide ongoing support, including servicing, maintenance, and advice to ensure your system continues to operate safely and reliably over time. We aim to build long-term relationships with our customers, offering responsive support whenever it is needed.

What areas do you cover?

We provide our services across a wide range of locations. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, you can view our list of service locations on our Where We Work page. If you don’t see your location listed, please get in touch – we’re always happy to discuss your requirements.
